London University GS - Muirfield - 6 February 2014
Only one match matters. Belchy and Sneaky Pete beating Porky and Denny 1 up in the afternoon, having been 5 down with 7 to play. A formidable come back that turned the momentum of the match. Mike and Nick have faced a torrent of abuse from their LUGS team mates for their failure to close out the match.
A fine day, cold and with a decent breeze. But for the time of year we were very lucky. Lunch and dinner at the club were as memorable as ever and the Mallard did us proud in terms of late night drinking.

Glasgow University - Glasgow Gailes - 9 March 2014
This fixture had not been played for various reasons since 2010, so it was good to resume rivalries at Glasgow Gailes in dry conditions. Lunch (an excellent chicken curry!) was taken before an afternoon round of fourballs. The match was comfortably won by SUGS - particularly so in the case of Match 3 where the Kinlochs were in dominant form - perhaps they had been aided by some warm weather practice in Spain?! Their winning score was the most comprehensive result in recent times...perhaps of all time! It was a day to remember (or perhaps forget) for Nicky Gold, who managed to lock his car keys inside the car yet again (this also happened at the 2013 Autumn Meeting!)

Luffness New GC - Luffness - 16 March 2014
Yet again, a very enjoyable day. Conditions were dry and sunny, but very windy - for the Hon Sec it took a well struck driver on the par 3 3rd hole to reach the green. Match 4 was the last game to return to the clubhouse following an extended lunch, and it proved pivotal - Team Luffness holed 2 putts best described as "rakers" on the final 2 holes to gain a crucial win, and halve the match overall - a very appropriate result in what is a most congenial fixture, with many participants being eligible to play for both sides.

RAGC was in excellent condition for the match, and the sun put in an appearance too! Good golf was played, including a closing birdie by Jonny Calder to seal a win in match 2. SUGS also played well in match 4, where the result was undisclosed! The overall result was a reversal of the 2013 3-2 win by the students.

Oxford & Cambridge GS - Prestwick GC - 3 August 2014
An excellent fixture, which went to the wire. The Society were 1up in the final match to conclude (#4) playing the 18th, and the score in the clubhouse was 6-5 in favour of SUGS. The OCGS tee shot ended up in thick rough just short of the green (a provisional was played but not required). A further 2 shots saw them lying 3' from the hole. SUGS were very close to the wall near the 1st tee. With both teams watching play around the 18th green, John Davie played a superb pitch from an awkward position to within 6' of the hole. SUGS Captain Harvie was obviously in a generous mood, and managed to leave this putt short, leaving Silver the chance to halve the hole, win the final match and halve the overall match. Taking his lead from Harvie, he also managed to miss, giving SUGS the narrowest of wins. Coupled with a superb dinner in the Prestwick clubhouse the previous evening, followed by an entertaining trip to "Elliots" nighclub, this match wanted for nothing, as all who played would surely agree.
